Inova Loudoun Hospital Visiting Hours

Visits from family and friends are great therapy and an important part of recovery. But remember, so is rest. Our visiting hours are designed to accommodate both.

Visiting hours differ depending on the patient care unit. Please note that at times visitors may be asked to step out of the room so that private care can be provided. If the patient you are visiting has a roommate and requests privacy, all visitors may be respectfully asked to leave the room. Our number one priority is the care and safety of our patients. Your cooperation is appreciated during these momentary visitation interruptions.

Hand Washing Policy

To keep our patients safe and to prevent the spread of infections, we require our staff and visitors to practice good hand hygiene. When visiting, please wash your hands with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer before entering and exiting the patient’s room. Additionally, if you are ill, please wait until you are well before coming to visit. The health of all patients and visitors is our top priority.

Quiet Times

Every patient care unit has a daily designated serenity or quiet time. This time is intended to provide patients with the opportunity to rest, relax, sleep, reflect and heal with no interruptions. Visitors are encouraged to respect serenity or quiet time by leaving the room, or by sitting quietly and restfully at the bedside. Please check unit-specific serenity hours.

Intensive care unit

• We welcome up to 2 visitors at a time in the patient’s room
• Children are welcome on a case-by-case basis. Please check with the nurse prior to visiting.
• Children must be accompanied at all times by a supervising adult
• Natural plants and flowers are not allowed in patient rooms
• The healthcare team may have special visitation requests when a patient is unstable, having a procedure and/or at shift handoff. Please follow the instructions of the healthcare team.

Inova Loudoun Ladies Board Birthing Inn

• The patient's banded Patient Care Companion (PCC), who is 18 years of age or older, will have access to the patient at all times. The PCC may stay with patient overnight.
• In order to provide our mothers the appropriate time for feeding, recovery, physician visits, and care:
• Visitation hours on the Family Centered Care (FCC) unit are from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. After 9 p.m., all visitors – including siblings – will be asked to leave.
• Patients may have up to 5 visitors at a time (a PCC plus 4 others, including siblings).
• A certified doula is not considered a visitor.
• Mothers are encouraged to take advantage of quiet time. Any loud or disruptive visitors may be asked to leave.
• Siblings are encouraged to visit if they are free of illness and supervised at all times by an adult other than the patient. Siblings must stay in the room. For safety reasons, we are unable to accommodate children in the patient room overnight.
• No children under the age of 12 – other than siblings of the newborn – may visit due to the undeveloped immune system of newborns.
• Special requests or considerations that affect visitation will be addressed on an individual basis.

Pediatrics

• Parents and grandparents may visit on an unrestricted basis
• At least 1 parent is encouraged to stay overnight in the child's room
• Siblings and young friends may visit the patient as long as they are healthy, well behaved, supervised by an adult, and the hospitalized child is not in isolation
• We are unable to accommodate siblings overnight

Medical/Surgical (MSU) and Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

• Guests should leave by 9 p.m. to accommodate the needs of all patients in the room
• Private rooms are limited to 1 overnight guest
• A limit of 2 visitors per patient is permitted in our semi-private rooms at one time. Overnight guests are not permitted.
• No children under the age of 12 are permitted unless a sibling or child of the patient

Behavioral medicine unit

• Visitation may be limited to avoid excess patient stimulation or as a result of a conflict with scheduled therapy sessions. Visitors must speak with the nursing staff prior to visitation.
• The nursing staff will assist in identifying the appropriate visitation times for the patient

Emergency Room

• Each visitor must sign in at the lobby desk in the ER waiting room before entering into the ER. Visitors are limited to 2 per patient.
• During an overnight admission (10 p.m. to 6 a.m.) to a semi-private room, only 1 adult visitor may accompany the patient to the patient's room, followed by overnight visiting guidelines
• Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a supervising adult at all times while in the ER waiting area. Visiting children are not permitted in the patient rooms.
