Inova Loudoun Hospital offers both inpatient and outpatient (same day) surgeries. Our hospital's newly renovated and expanded surgical center features nine state-of-the-art operating suites, two special procedure rooms, and the latest technology in minimally-invasive robotic surgery: the robotic-assisted daVinci® Surgical System and MAKOplasty® Total Hip and Knee. In addition to our regularly scheduled surgeries, our surgery department department is staffed for emergency surgery, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Inova Loudoun Hospital is a Joint Commission Center of Excellence for hip, knee, and spinal surgery. We are proud to be one of only 59 hospitals nationwide and the only hospital in Northern Virginia to earn straight “A’s” in patient safety since the inception of the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade in 2012.
daVinci® Surgical Technology
The daVinci® Surgical System features a 3D high definition vision system, special instruments, and computer software that allow your surgeon to operate with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity and control. Studies of daVinci surgery have demonstrated a number of patient benefits including shorter hospital stays, fewer complications, smaller incisions associated with minimal scarring, less need for narcotic pain medication, less blood loss, and a quicker recovery.
Inova Loudoun Hospital is pleased to offer the daVinci Xi technology – the latest addition to the daVinci® product line. This robot can be used across a wide spectrum of minimally-invasive surgical procedures and has been optimized for multi-quadrant surgeries (procedures in which instruments must be able to reach up and down and across the abdomen or chest). The daVinci technology is used in varying general laparoscopic, urologic, gynecologic, colorectal, cardiac, and/or thoracic procedures.

MAKOPlasty® Total Hip and Knee
For those patients requiring a partial or total hip or knee replacement, Inova Loudoun Hospital offers MAKOPlasty® robotic-arm assisted technology. Your orthopedic surgeon will utilize the MAKO system software to pre-plan your surgery – generating a 3D virtual model of your unique anatomy. This model is used during your procedure and helps the surgeon to prepare the bone for the implant with great precision. Learn more about the Joint Replacement Program at Inova Loudoun Hospital

Preparing for your surgery
Our physicians, nurses and staff are here to assist you with preparing for surgery. We want your stay to be as comfortable and convenient as possible.
Read our brochure to learn more about what to expect before and after surgery. Keep in mind, these are just guidelines and helpful tips. Ask your doctor if you have specific questions or are unsure about how to prepare for your surgery.
Surgery is scheduled by your surgeon's office. Be sure to contact your insurance company prior to scheduling your surgery to see if you need any referrals and what co-pays you may be responsible for.
Inova Loudoun Hospital offers both Same Day Surgery (outpatient) as well as inpatient surgery. Different surgical procedures may require different lengths of stay in the hospital. We provide a comfortable lounge equipped with free wi-fi for visitors waiting for loved ones undergoing a procedure. If you are scheduled for surgery, you will be asked some questions regarding about your medical history as well as questions about allergies, medications and the planned procedure.
After your surgery, our staff will take you to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) where you will begin to wake up and recover. You will stay in the PACU until you are discharged home or moved to a room to continue your recovery. You may still be a little groggy and need some assistance with your medications and getting to the bathroom.
If you are discharged home, it is important to have a family member or friend stay with you during the first 24 hours after surgery. When you are ready to be discharged, a nurse will review your doctor's orders with you, provide information about medications and diet, and answer any questions you may have.
