A long and distinguished history
Our unique partnership between nationally-recognized Inova Fairfax Hospital and Virginia Cancer Specialists brought about some of the first stem cell transplants in the mid-Atlantic region. More than 800 transplants have been completed to date. Dr. Roy Beveridge performed the first autologous bone marrow transplant in the Northern Virginia and Washington, DC metro area. Dr. Gregory Orloff, current co-director, joined the program in 1995 and performed the first allogeneic transplant. Dr. Dipti Patel-Donnelly joined the practice in 2003 and serves as co-director.
With our highly skilled and experienced transplant oncologists, physicians, surgeons, nurses and other health professionals, we offer the most advanced treatment options and technologies available today for those living with cancer and diseases of the blood and bone marrow.
The program offers a full range of bone marrow and stem cell transplant options, including autologous, non-myeloablative, allogeneic and matched related donor transplants. Learn more about transplant options

Outcomes and national differentiators
Our outcomes as compiled by the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) rival and in some cases surpass those of other institutions providing similar services. The program is the only FACT (Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy) accredited program in the Washington, DC, area. We have been affiliated with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) since 1998 and annually meet their stringent requirements for the performance of matched unrelated donor transplants. We are one of only a handful of programs nationwide to offer phototherapy (PUVA) at Inova Fairfax Hospital for the treatment of chronic graft vs. host disease.
