Inova surgical oncologists have expertise and extensive experience in the treatment of both advanced and more common types of cancer.

Pancreas cancer and other diseases of the pancreas

The most common procedures we perform for patients with pancreas cancer or other diseases of the pancreas include:

• Whipple procedure
• Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy
• Irreversible electroporation (IRE)
• Tumor enucleation
• Puestow procedure
• Total pancreatectomy

Abdominal cancers

Patients with advanced abdominal cancers, including peritoneal metastases or primary peritoneal tumors such as mesothelioma, can be candidates for a specialized surgical treatment known as HIPEC.  Learn more about this specialized procedure available at Inova 

Appendix cancer and pseudomyxoma peritonei

Many patients with appendix cancer also develop tumors in the abdomen. These are known as peritoneal metastases or pseudomyxoma peritonei syndrome. HIPEC may be a treatment option. Learn more 

Liver, bile duct and gallbladder tumors

The most common procedures we perform for patients with liver, bile duct or gallbladder cancers include:

• Open and laparoscopic liver resection
• Liver ablation
• Common bile duct resection
• Combined approaches for tumors metastatic to the liver

Stomach cancers and GIST tumors

The most common procedures we perform for patients with stomach tumors include:

• Total, subtotal or partial gastrectomy
• Wedge gastrectomy
• Laparoscopic gastrectomy

Melanoma

We work closely with Inova Melanoma and Skin Cancer Center to provide care for patients who require surgical intervention for melanoma. The most common procedures we perform for patients with melanoma include:

• Wide local excision
• Sentinel lymph node biopsy
• Lymph node dissection
• Minimally invasive endoscopic inguinal lymphadenectomy
