Inova Epilepsy Center

Inova's comprehensive epilepsy center at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus employs unique specialists, leading technology and a multidisciplinary team to provide the highest level service and patient care. The National Association of Epilepsy Centers has accredited our epilepsy program as a Level 4 program (indicating the highest level of epilepsy care) since 2014.

In addition to standard services, we provide complex neurodiagnostic monitoring, as well as neuropsychological and psychosocial evaluation and treatment. Our Level 4 designation also means we can offer advanced epilepsy surgery services, including evaluation with intracranial electrodes.

Should you be seen by a specialist?

Delayed or denied referral may be detrimental to the patient’s health, safety and quality of life.

Take this survey to find out if you should be seen at the Inova Epilepsy Center

  1. If your seizures have not been brought under control after three months of care by a primary care provider (family physician, pediatrician), further neurologic intervention by a neurologist, or an epilepsy center if locally available, is appropriate
  2. If you are seeing a general neurologist, and your seizures have not been brought under control after 12 months, you should insist upon a referral to a specialized epilepsy center with an epileptologist
  3. If the diagnosis of epilepsy is in question or if psychogenic nonepileptic events are suspected, a referral to an epilepsy center is appropriate early in the evaluation process for diagnostic purposes
