Perinatal Orientation

The Perinatal Orientation program allows participants to acquire basic skills and knowledge essential to practice in the perinatal specialty units of family-centered care, high risk perinatal and labor delivery recovery units. Course goals include development of critical thinking skills to assess the family unit, performance of physical and psychosocial assessments, planning and implementing specialty care and evaluating the effectiveness of interventions. The course includes lectures, self-study, skill labs and clinical experience with a preceptor. Also included is the theory and application of operating room nursing for the perinatal nurse, ECG monitoring and the neonatal resuscitation program.
