Oncology Massage
The goal of oncology massage is to provide therapeutic and comfort-oriented massage and touch therapy in an effort to soothe, nurture and support the body.
A variety of techniques can be safely used to aid in lymphatic drainage, reduce Chemo-induced Peripheral Neuropathy, lessen pain, improve range of motion and reduce evidence of post-surgical scarring.
All individuals with cancer and those who are or recovering from its treatment, regardless of the severity of their condition, can also benefit from comfort-oriented touch therapies, including Swedish massage, Reiki and Myofascial Release. These types of touch therapy promote healing, decreases pain and anxiety, support strength and help re-establish body image.
Body work during treatment and recovery is undemanding, supportive, and soothing. Regularly scheduled, ongoing massage sessions can be incorporated as an integral part of your care and recovery.
Our skilled massage therapists are professionally trained in oncology massage and are aware of the needs of those who have gone through cancer treatment, such as adjusting for the risk of lymphedema, fatigue, bruising, immunosuppression and the side effects of trauma to the body and spirit. The key to the safety and comfort of our clients is our expertise, open communication, and individualized treatment allowing for adjustment of pressure, length of session, positioning and avoidance of affected areas of the body. Physician approval is required.

Oncology Aesthetics
At Inova Medical Spa, our licensed master aestheticians are trained in oncology aesthetics and provide restorative skincare therapies to individuals living with cancer. All treatments emphasize the client’s safety and environmental sanitation.
Our aestheticians understand the special health needs of individuals living with cancer and those recovering from its treatment, allowing them to select the appropriate professional skincare products and protocols for cancer-related skin conditions.
Our Restorative Oncology Facial can help with some of the visual skin damage that occurs during oncology treatments. It is designed to be a relaxing, holistic treatment to help nourish and restore the integrity of the skin. Gentle cleansers, toners and moisturizers are used throughout the service. Exfoliation is done through a calming massage technique. Extractions and harsh scrubs are avoided to soothe sensitive skin. The service concludes with the application of a hydrating mask and a light pressure scalp and neck massage.
Only restorative treatments can be performed during and up to one year of completing oncology medical treatments. Physician approval is required.

Medical and Paramedical Tattooing
We are pleased to offer our clients medical and paramedical tattooing services in partnership with MediInk. Medical micro-pigmentation (tattooing) is an innovative solution for:
- Breast reconstruction: 3D areola/nipple restoration for both female and male mastectomy patients
- Discolorations: Hypo-pigmentation (areas of the skin that are light)
- Alopecia: Hair simulation for scalp and eyebrows
- Scar camouflage: Surgical scars including face lift, open-heart surgery, trauma scars and skin grafts

Permanent micro-pigmentation (tattooing) techniques involve implanting custom color pigmentation into the dermal layer of the skin. Marnie Rustemeyer, our board certified permanent cosmetic professional, is a breast cancer survivor and specializes in 3D nipple/areola tattooing, scar camouflage and collagen induction therapy for breast reconstruction patients. She also works with several plastic surgeons in West Virginia and New York City.
