Many of my clients share a common concern: “tired-looking eyes.” Whether wrinkles, dark circles, hallowing, or “bags” are the culprit, there are varying nonsurgical options that can help.

Eye serums or creams can only do so much; I typically only recommend them for hydration and antioxidants. If wrinkles around the eyes (also known as crow’s feet) are the concern, then a neuromodulator is the answer. Examples of neuromodulators include BOTOX®, Dysport® and Xeomin®. These injectables minimize muscle movement, allowing the skin to relax and softening the appearance of wrinkles. This is a relatively pain-free injection with no downtime. It takes up to 2 weeks for the product to work, so patience is key. Results typically last about 3-4 months.

If under eye “bags” are a concern, surgery (Lower Blepharoplasty) is likely ideal. However, depending on the severity of the “bags,” some clients can go the nonsurgical route. BELOTERO BALANCE® is a filler made of hyaluronic acid which plumps the tissue in the targeted treatment area; results typically last up to one year. BELOTERO® can also improve the “hollow” appearance and darkness under the eyes. When treating the eyes with filler, swelling is possible and bruising is to be expected. I recommend that my clients avoid blood thinners (i.e. Advil, Motrin, aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, etc.) to reduce possible bruising.

I’ve been using BELOTERO® around the eyes for 10 years and feel that this particular filler yields the best results when treating this area of concern. I’ve found that other fillers are a bit too thick or cause unnecessary swelling when used around the eyes. My philosophy is to always maintain a natural appearance and to never create an “overdone” look.

Regardless of your concern, a consultation is essential to determine your optimal treatment plan; gain as much information as possible and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
