Wellness in the New Year

Happy 2018! By now, we are all relieved that the holiday hustle and bustle has passed and are excited about what the New Year has to bring. The last few weeks have been joyous, exhaustive, merry, and stressful all mixed together.

It’s usually at this time of year that we decide to make healthier changes to our lifestyles so that we can increase our happiness, improve our health, and feel better all around. Below are a few tips to help you maintain (or gain) wellness in this New Year!

Schedule a Massage

Because massages have so many health benefits, they are no longer viewed as “luxury” beauty treatments. They can lower blood pressure, relieve muscle tension, increase circulation, and reduce stress. Many doctors and even chiropractors recognize the health benefits of regular massage and, let’s face it; it’s just generally fun and relaxing!

Commit to “ME” Time

Set aside time weekly to decompress.  How much time you depends on your lifestyle, but ideally, we should spend 30 minutes a day decreasing anxiety. This may mean taking a bath, meditating, keeping a journal, or even exercising if that’s how you unwind. (While technology is great, be sure this isn’t your relaxation outlet in the evening as it can disrupt quality of sleep.)

Increase your Happiness

This is a tricky one, but improving our emotional health begins with conscious activities to create “feel good” emotions. Commit to doing one nice thing for yourself each day. It could be taking a walk, working out, giving yourself a positive pep talk, or even getting something like a facial. What matters, is the end result- if it made you happy, then it was worth it.
