Avoiding Holiday Burnout

Every year, we say we are not going to do it.  We’re not going to let ourselves get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holidays and get stressed out. But then, here we are, right in the center of it.

We have four holiday burnout tips to help you enjoy the holiday season without the stress that typically comes with it:

Make time for “Me- Time”

Spending time unwinding and relaxing will help to alleviate stress, release tension and decrease anxiety. We know this is easier said than done, but one way to do it is by having a scheduled time set aside for you, and only you. It’s even better if you can pair it with something already relaxing – like a massage or facial. “Me time” often times includes exercise. Whether its yoga, spin, or a quick daily run – exercise helps to relieve stress and produce endorphins that offer “feel good” vibes. Exercise also improves your quality of sleep, which in turn offers mood enhancing benefits.

Prioritize

Prioritizing responsibilities and tasks will assist with feelings of accomplishment as they are completed. Nothing feels better than checking something off a checklist!

Pace Yourself

Making those lists (which includes “me time”) and knowing what your time limits are, are important things to know to keep your holiday stress in check. For example, do you need to make made-from-scratch cookies or will decorating the pre-made dough cookies get the job done? Taking this shortcut can give you time to spend with loved ones or knock out other items on your to-do list.

Keep things in perspective

Focus what makes you happy during this season so you can let go of the things that don’t matter quite as much. If you get overwhelmed, take a minute to breathe and meditate. Meditation offers a sense of calm, peace and balance which are all emotional benefits of managing stress and it can reset your mindset.
