BOTOX® vs. Fillers

It seems like today everyone is talking about BOTOX® and fillers. We know that they offer cosmetic enhancement that are supposed to make you look younger and maybe reduce the appearance of wrinkles and lines, but what are they and are either right for you?

BOTOX® is a neurotoxin that blocks that action of nerves on muscles. BOTOX® It’s injected into muscles that form wrinkles and paralyzes the nerve action of the muscle for about 3-4 months. This can minimize dynamic wrinkles (the lines that appear when making facial expressions).

Fillers are used for static wrinkles (the lines and wrinkles that can be seen at rest) and to add volume to areas like lips. Fillers are injected into the skin to directly soften wrinkles and fill hollow areas. There are temporary as well as permanent options for fillers.

While BOTOX® is the most widely recognized brand name for this type of cosmetic, there are other variations that have FDA approval, namely, Dysport® and Xeomin®. There are also several brands of filler to choose from, so it’s advisable to ask your board certified provider for a recommendation on what is the right option for you.

The Inova Medical Spa offers both BOTOX® and Filler services. Please call 703-554-1130 for more information or to book an appointment.
