The Health Sciences Library provides resources and services to Inova physicians, employees, affiliated residents and students for their work as it relates to patient care, education, research and management. The library, through the Consumer Health Resource Center, also provides resources and services to assist patients, their families and the local community.

Location

The library is housed in Inova Fairfax Hospital/Inova Children's Hospital and is located in the atrium at the top of the escalators in the connector corridor between the Tower Lobby and the Inova Women's Hospital.

  • Monday — Friday 8 a.m. — 8 p.m.
  • Saturday 9 a.m. — 5 p.m.

Resources

The library's information resources provide access to clinical and managerial literature, online databases, patient education, quality improvement, continuing education and research. The scope of the collection reflects Inova's primary needs with resource concentrations in medicine, nursing, allied health, health care administration and patient education.

Online databases

The library provides access to MEDLINE, CINAHL, MDConsult, Evidence-Based Medicine Reviews, Health Business Fulltext, Health & Wellness Resource Center, among others. Over 1000 full-text electronic journals, books, journals, audiovisual and multimedia materials.

Internet access, services, reference and literature Searches

Extensive reference service is provided by experienced medical librarians who access information from the library collection and online databases as needed.

Current awareness

Periodic updates from databases and/or content pages of journals from the library collection can be requested. Inquire at the reference desk for details.

Client education

Orientation to library resources and services is provided on both a formal and informal basis. Classes cover the basics of database searching.

Photocopying

Self-service photocopies are available free of charge to Inova affiliates. Access codes may be requested at the circulation desk. Photocopy service is available to offsite clients for materials related to work needs.

Interlibrary loan / document delivery

Materials not available in the library may be obtained from another library through the Interlibrary Loan Service. There is a charge for this service that may be billed to the department with manager approval for work-related materials. Materials obtained for personal or educational use must be prepaid.

Borrowing

All Inova employees and medical staff may borrow materials from the library with appropriate ID. Authorized patrons must fill out a registration card to initiate borrowing privileges.
