Vestibular Rehabilitation

The vestibular system is a sensory organ within the inner ear that helps with balance and head-eye coordination. When the system is not working correctly, individuals may experience dizziness and/or decreased balance which may lead to an increased risk for falls.

Our vestibular therapists at Inova will evaluate each patient and develop an individualized treatment plan which may include head movements, balance, gait, and ocular exercises.

This program is designed to assist individuals who may be experiencing the following symptoms:

  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Headaches
  • Vertigo or room spinning dizziness
  • Frequent falls
  • Visual disturbances

Causes of dizziness and/or decreased balance:

  • Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)
  • Concussion
  • Vestibular neuritis (inner ear infection)
  • Migraines
  • Meniere's Disease
