Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) is a daily pill taken in advance to help prevent HIV infection. The CDC recommends that PrEP be considered for people who are HIV-negative and at substantial risk for acquiring HIV.
How do I get PrEP in Northern Virginia?
PrEP is offered as part of Inova Juniper Program's primary medical care. If you have health insurance, please bring your card to your appointment. If you are interested in starting PrEP, please contact us:
Non-occupational Post Exposure Prophylaxis (nPEP)
Non-occupational Post Exposure Prophylaxis (nPEP) is a 28-day course of medication shown to be effective in preventing infection with HIV when taken within 72 hours after a high risk exposure. PEP is about 80 to 90 percent effective. It is not a guarantee that HIV infection will not take place. Patients are seen for a same-day visit for PEP.

nPEP can be administered at a Juniper location, or an Emergency Room (ER) or Urgent Care center (click to see a list of Inova locations). If you have health insurance, please have your card with you.
