Cancers We Treat

Prostate cancer

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among American men. Each year, more than 200,000 men in the United States are diagnosed with prostate cancer. Currently, more than 2 million men in the United States are living with prostate cancer, and more than 16 million men are affected by prostate cancer around the world.

Most men are diagnosed with prostate cancer through something called a PSA screening or when they develop symptoms. Inova provides prostate cancer screening, early diagnosis of prostate cancer, different types of treatment for different stages of prostate cancer, services for family members of patents with prostate cancer, and genetic counselling for patients at high risk of developing prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer can be different for each patient, and the differences in each patient’s tumor may make treatments work for some patients and not work for others. Researchers and doctors are learning more about the differences in the types of prostate cancer tumors so that they can better understand how different patients respond to treatment.

Bladder cancer

Bladder cancer occurs in about 74,000 people in the United States each year. The majority of bladder cancer is diagnosed in the early stages of cancer. However, there are no great screening tools or guidelines for diagnosis of bladder cancer. Some people may first visit a doctor because they have blood in the urine or pain. Diagnosis, treatment, and continued monitoring of patients is an important part of the care Inova offers for bladder cancer.

Kidney cancer

Kidney cancers, which are also called renal cell cancers, occur in more than 60,000 people in the United States each year. Kidney tumors are usually treated with surgery when they are found in the early stage of cancer. There are only a few screening tools for kidney cancer available for most people. However, some types of kidney cancer can be hereditary, meaning it is passed down from a parent, so some people may benefit from close monitoring for symptoms and follow-up care. Inova provides surgery, genetic screening, targeted treatments, and clinical trial options whenever necessary to treat kidney cancer.

Testicular cancer

Testicular cancer is a rare type of cancer that occurs in about 8,000 men a year in the United States. Testicular cancer occurs most commonly in young adults and is highly curable. There is no screening tool to detect testicular cancer. However, because a painless lump is one of the most common signs of testicular cancer, self-testicular exams, especially in those with a family and personal history of testicular cancer, could help find testicular cancer early.
