Biography

Sonia is a Licensed, Board-Certified Senior Genetic Counselor managing Pediatric and Adult Genetics clinics at Inova Fairfax Hospital and Pediatric Specialists of Virginia. She is an active member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC), American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) and Virginia Association of Genetic Counselors (VaAGC).

Sonia received her Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Calicut University, India. She received her first Master of Science degree in Biotechnology from Mahatma Gandhi University, India and her second Masters in Genetic Counseling from the prestigious McGill University in Canada.

Prior to joining Inova, Sonia was working as a Prenatal and Pre-conception Genetic Counselor in Albuquerque, NM. She also has years of experience in Medical Transcription and Quality Management before starting a career in Genetic Counseling.

Sonia's philosophy is to provide non-directional genetic counseling to help her patients make informed decisions based on what is best for them. She is passionate about helping her patients navigate the health system and procure the much-needed services and support that they deserve.

In her spare time, Sonia enjoys traveling both locally and internationally, playing team trivia, and learning languages.
