Support Groups

Inova's support groups are available at a variety of locations in Northern Virginia. Support groups are condition-related and are run individually by individuals or departments who are able to maintain them.

Since schedules and locations can change, please call or email the support group organizer before attending.

Breast cancer

Alexandria, Fairfax, Fair Oaks and Loudoun
A variety of breast cancer support groups, including "Survivors Offering Support" (SOS), a peer mentoring group led by survivors trained to provide knowledge, support and encouragement.

Cancer

Alexandria, Fairfax, Fair Oaks and Loudoun
Inova's Life with Cancer program offers seminars, support groups, individual and family counseling and nursing consultations, to provide assistance in times of crisis, and information about specific cancers.

Epilepsy

Falls Church, VA (down the road from Inova Fairfax Hospital)
Held on the second Tuesday of every month from 7 - 8:30 p.m., our free support group is for adults living with epilepsy, and provides encouragement by helping patients meet others who have overcome challenges like their own. You will find acceptance and comfort from knowing that you are not alone.

Heart / Cardiovascular

Inova Heart & Vascular Institute at Inova Fairfax Hospital
Support groups include: Mended Hearts (heart surgery); Tender Hearts (for parents of children with heart problems); cardiac discussion group; living with heart disease; heart and lung transplant/VAD; and artificial heart support and education group.

Limb Loss

Inova Fairfax Medical Campus
The Inova Amputee Support Group is a place for individuals to connect with others who have experienced limb loss. Our goal is to provide an opportunity for people to share personal feelings, coping strategies, or firsthand information about their experience.

New Moms

Various locations
Talk about the challenges and joys of being a new mother. Facilitated by an experienced maternal-infant health educator. There is also a support group for new mothers returning to work.

Traumatic Injury

Trauma Talk is a monthly group that provides a place for trauma survivors to connect with each other and offer support in recovery. Hosted by the Trauma Survivors Network (TSN), this group is open to survivors, caregivers, and family members.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

Inova Fairfax Medical Campus
TBI Group is open to TBI survivors, caregivers, and family members. This monthly group shares education, resources, and coping skills with those affected by traumatic brain injuries. TBI Group is co-facilitated by the Trauma Survivors Network (TSN) and Brain Injury Services (BIS).
