The Altieri Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship

Welcome to our webpage! We are excited to share highlights about our program!

This small fellowship is located in Northern Virginia, 15 miles from downtown Washington, DC, at the world class Inova Children's Hospital on the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus. Our unique location provides learners a diverse spectrum of patients and pathology. Our goal is to train leaders in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, who are able to practice anywhere.

The program leadership is involved nationally in education advocacy and innovation. We are delighted to provide tailored curricula to meet the needs of all our fellows. Many of the faculty are national experts.

Program highlights:

• Pediatric mini-residency (EM track)
• Longitudinal general EM experiences (Peds track) in Level 1 Emergency and Trauma center
• State-of-the-art teaching and simulation facilities
• Unique instruction in simulation and debriefing
• Ultrasound fellowship trained faculty
• Leadership development in education administration
• Rotation at the National Capital Poison Control Center
• FACT (Abuse and Forensics) and EMS

Dedicated time is provided for scholarly activities. Fellows engage in team based learning with a flipped classroom at weekly conferences. Conferences are fellow led, and feature a variety of structured learning activities that expose fellows to the latest in educational technology. Fellows also collaborate asynchronously through web-based activities.

Fellows enjoy ample opportunities to hone their teaching and procedural teaching skills in both clinical and conference settings to learners at all levels and disciplines. Fellows participate in regional PEM activities with neighboring institutions throughout the year and multispecialty conferences with the residents rotating from the Inova Pediatric Residency, the George Washington University Emergency Medicine Residency, and the WHC-Georgetown Emergency Medicine Residency. Research is closely mentored, many recent graduates have presented their work at national conferences. Graduates of the program are in demand in both academic and community settings.
